Fallen autumn leaves lie just below the surface of a pond, filling most of the square frame. Leaves in burnt orange, rust red, mustard yellow and olive green overlap in a dense, dark-edged cluster, some sharp and some softened by the water above them.
Fine concentric ripples run across the surface, bending the reflections into stripes and curved bands. Pale lilac, sky blue and soft white patches sit on the right and along the bottom, cooling the warm leaves. The rendering looks like a painting, with smooth, glossy colour and crisp edges where light catches the ripples.
