A black and white beach scene with one splash of colour: a weathered Adirondack chair in soft turquoise blue sits on pale sand in the lower left, angled towards the water. Faint tracks mark the sand around it. The square format gives the chair plenty of empty space, which makes the scene feel quiet and still.
Heavy, dark storm cloud fills the top third, and slanting shafts of rain fall into a bright patch of light near the horizon. The sea is smoothed to a milky grey, as in a long exposure. Dark rocks sit at the left shoreline and in the shallows to the right, anchoring a photograph that is otherwise soft and misty.
