About Blue Desire
A wide panoramic canvas holds a single horizontal mass of colour across its middle third. Cobalt and navy blue crowd the centre, dragged sideways in short scraped strokes that break into vertical drips at the lower edge. Warm apricot and soft orange wash out to the left and right, and a few small red and vermilion marks sit at the core, with one near-white highlight just off centre. The outer quarters of the canvas fade to pale cream and light grey, almost empty.
The effect is of something dispersing outward through mist, with hard blue weight at the centre and quiet, thinning colour at the edges.
Built for a long wall: above a three-seater sofa, a sideboard in the dining room, or a bed head. The cool blues sit well with grey or white walls, pale oak and linen, while the apricot passages pick up brass lamps, tan leather and terracotta pots.
