Eight butterflies float against a vivid turquoise background that shows long vertical brush streaks, giving the flat colour a soft, uneven texture. Each butterfly is a separate illustrated specimen with fine dark outlines, set well apart so none overlap. The square format leaves plenty of open blue between them.
The colours vary from one wing to the next. An orange butterfly with teal edges sits top left, a purple one with a yellow centre sits lower right, and a pale lime and white one with black veining sits at the bottom. Another has pink, yellow and green stripes on its wings. A dark blue and green moth-like butterfly floats at the upper right, and small brown and orange ones sit at the edges.
