About Man's Best Friend
A broad-headed black dog, closest to a Labrador, lies with its muzzle flat on an orange floor and looks straight out at the viewer. The dark coat is broken up by flat bands of lime green, turquoise, lavender, magenta and cobalt blue that follow the brow, ears and jowls. The nose is painted bright red with two dark nostrils, the lower muzzle yellow and freckled with black dots. Rows of small white dashes trace the cheek and shoulder line. Paint drips run down from the ears.
The background is simple: an orange block behind the head, a pale blue and white panel at the left with a small red shape, and a warm yellow floor. Brushwork is flat and poster-like, with crisp edges and a few deliberate runs of wet colour. The mood is relaxed and slightly cheeky, a resting dog rendered in street-art colour rather than realistic fur.
Suits a family living room, hallway or rumpus room where a bit of colour is wanted, and works well in kids' bedrooms and vet or grooming reception areas. Pairs with white or charcoal walls, timber floors and plain furniture, and sits comfortably beside other bright graphic prints or a bookshelf of colourful spines.
