A large white rooster fills the lower two thirds of this square watercolour, its body built from loose washes of cream, pale grey and soft yellow with fine speckles of paint spattered across the feathers. Its head turns to the right, showing a round amber eye, a pale beak and a heavy red wattle shaded with orange.
The jagged red comb splays across the top right in layers of crimson, orange and purple. Behind the bird, brick and tile walls in rust, teal, navy and brown run into the corner, crossed by two thin grey vertical bars. Straw in ochre and green sits at the base, and a signature is visible in the bottom right corner.
