A black candlestick telephone stands in the centre of a square sepia page. The tall stem rises from a round base with a rotary dial of silver finger holes, and a flared earpiece hangs on a hook at the side. A black cord loops down the left and curls out of frame.
Behind it sits an old French business letterhead. Across the top runs "MANUFACTURE DE COULEURS & VERNIS", with a phoenix crest and three round medals at left, plus the lines "USINE DE LA TRANCHÉE" and "POITIERS (VIENNE)". Faded cursive, ruled ledger columns with prices and a date of 1905 fill the beige and rose-tinted ground.
