About Carmen
A woman shown in greyscale fills the centre of this collage, smiling with both hands raised, palms open. She wears a tall headdress of leaves and fruit, layered strands of pearls and beaded necklaces across her shoulders, and a heavy cuff of bells on one wrist. A carved bird figure sits at her shoulder. Above her head, torn red and yellow lettering arcs across the top beside a navy banner reading 1955, with two purple-blue hummingbirds in flight and a wiry circular diagram at the right.
The background is aged sepia paper with grid and ledger lines, while blue and yellow feathered fans spread across the lower corners. A stencilled band reading ZIRIGUIDUM crosses her eyes in a smear of rust-orange. The character is playful and theatrical, a carnival portrait built from scraps of old print, with a cursive signature line at the base.
Suits a living room with mid-century or eclectic furniture, a bedroom with warm timber and linen, or a home office wall that needs a focal point. Works alongside brass lamps, rattan and vintage posters, and picks up navy, mustard and rust cushions. The tall format fits a narrow wall between a doorway and bookshelf.
