About Champagne
A tall bottle stands at the centre, its shoulder and neck painted in warm tan and its lower body sinking into deep maroon where the table shadow crosses it. To the left, a small glass with a red bowl sits on a blue foot at the edge of a mustard-yellow tabletop. On the right, a wide blue goblet on a long blue stem rises against a peach wall, its shadow stretching down behind it. Two green apples with pale cut stems sit in the lower right corner.
The background is divided into flat planes of scarlet, dark crimson and soft peach, so the objects read as much as shapes as they do as glassware. Brushwork is smooth and lightly mottled, with colour blended wet into wet rather than built in thick strokes. The character is bold and graphic: a domestic table setting reduced to strong colour blocks and long diagonal shadows.
Suits a dining room, kitchen wall or bar area where the red and mustard blocks can carry a plain wall. Works with mid-century timber furniture, black metal frames and terracotta or brass accessories. In an open living space it pairs well with a dark rug and a single green plant picking up the apples. Browse more multi-coloured art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
