About Lunar Orb Abstract
A pale silver-white disc sits slightly above centre on a square canvas washed in dull plum and mauve. The surrounding field is worked with swirling palette-knife marks that catch the light in arcs and fingerprint-like ridges, leaving the edges darker than the middle. Inside the circle the paint thins to a soft grey-white, and across its lower half sit patches of rust red, burnt orange, ochre and smoky black, overlaid with looping tangles of cream and thin black line work that scribble their way from left to right.
Diagonal rust-brown strokes rise from the tangle towards the upper left like reeds, breaking the roundness of the shape. The effect is quiet and moody, with one bright, busy knot of colour held inside a still, softly clouded frame of plum.
Suits a lounge room or bedroom with warm neutral walls, oak or walnut furniture and linen upholstery. The plum ground works well against grey or greige paint and picks up terracotta cushions, brass lamps and rust-toned rugs.
