About Stencil City Skyline
A flat black city silhouette fills the centre of this square canvas: a row of thin chimney-like spires on the left, a gridded tower block, a spiked steeple and a long diagonal ramp or bridge climbing to the top right corner. Behind it the sky is scraped cream and off-white, thin enough to show the weave and earlier layers. The outer edges fall away into deep black and rusted ochre, so the skyline reads as a cut-out against light.
Stencilled type runs through the work: pale blue and gold letters spelling KICK and STU, reversed lines of small text along the lower half, numerals near the corners, all printed as if seen from the back. The character is graphic and industrial, closer to a screen-printed poster than a traditional view of a city.
Suits a city apartment, a loft living room with concrete or brick, or a home office with black steel shelving and a leather chair. The strong black shapes hold their own above a pale sofa or a dark timber sideboard, and it pairs well with monochrome photography, matte black lamps and linen in oatmeal or charcoal.
