About Crimson Loop Abstract
A square canvas built from overlapping rectangles of grey, charcoal and off-white, crossed by bands of bright red. Near the centre a loosely scribbled white ring, drawn in several fast overlapping passes, circles a thick slab of crimson that runs vertically down the left of the middle. Behind the ring sit a dark near-black block and a pale scraped panel. Red bars break out top centre, mid-right and along the lower third, while the outer edges soften into dry brushed grey and cream.
The red passages are heavily loaded, with crusted impasto peaks that catch light, and the greys are dragged thin so the weave shows through. It is a graphic, hard-edged painting with one loose gesture at its heart, quiet in tone until the red takes over.
Suits a modern living room with grey walls or concrete flooring, a white hallway needing one point of colour, or above a dark timber sideboard. Pairs with charcoal linen sofas, chrome or black metal lamps and red cushions. Works well as a single square above a bedhead or in an office behind a desk.
