A pen-and-ink sailing ship with tall masts, rigging and small pennant flags sits in the top left corner, set against a splash of turquoise watercolour. Its hull fades into a wash of brown and ochre below. The drawing is loose and scratchy, with crosshatched lines that suggest sails and ropes rather than finishing them.
A large faint compass rose is drawn in grey pencil at the centre, with two dolphins leaping above it and a few small letters and symbols scattered nearby. Along the bottom sit a ribbed scallop shell, smaller shells, pebbles and a knobbly starfish at the right. Blue and gold splatters run across a white background, which leaves the right side open.
