About Coordinates
The canvas is divided into four unequal rectangles by a vertical seam and a horizontal band. Top left and bottom right are pale blush cream; top right and bottom left are slate blue. Running across the middle, the horizontal band changes colour halfway: olive green on the left, flat black on the right. Every panel carries heavy surface texture, with fine scratched lines, looping scribbles and trowelled ridges dragged through thick paint so the underlayers show as paler flecks.
The mood is quiet and architectural, closer to a weathered plaster wall than a painted picture. Colour does little, while texture and the offset cross of the dividing bands do the work.
Suits a living room with linen sofas, a bedroom above a timber bedhead, or an entry hall where the raking light catches the scratched surface. It sits well with pale oak, rattan, concrete and stone finishes, and picks up denim blues, olive cushions and unbleached linen. Good above a low sideboard or console.
