About Crossroads of Life
The canvas is divided into irregular rectangles of rust orange, burnt sienna, deep crimson, olive green, mustard yellow and near-black charcoal, arranged like overlapping panels of weathered metal. At the centre, slightly left of middle, a small square of pale gold leaf glows against the darker blocks and acts as the meeting point of the vertical red band and the horizontal yellow strip. Across every panel the paint is built up in raised, crackled relief, catching light in fine ridges and pitted hollows.
Thin silver-grey lines and drips run from the gold square down into the charcoal block and out to the right, breaking the grid. The mood is quiet and weathered, more like an aged wall or rusted plate than a painting of anything in particular.
Suits a hallway, dining room or lounge with timber, leather or exposed brick, where the raised surface picks up lamplight. The rust and olive blocks sit well with tan furniture, jute rugs and dark metal frames. Works as a single vertical piece above a sideboard or narrow console.
