About Dancer II
Two loosely drawn female figures occupy the upper half of this portrait composition, arms lifted above their heads, their bodies sketched in thin grey-violet lines and filled with watery pink washes. Below them the image breaks apart into large rounded petal shapes in rose, magenta and mauve, overlapping like open blooms. Thin yellow lines flick through the lower section in arcs and dots, with small sage and olive leaf marks scattered between them. The upper background stays pale, barely tinted with blue and lemon.
The character is light and unfinished on purpose: edges bleed, pigment pools darker where the washes meet, and the paper white shows through as breathing space. The figures and the flowers read as one continuous movement rather than two separate subjects.
Works in a bedroom above a bed or dresser, in a ladies' powder room, or in a light-filled living room with white or chalky walls.
