About Dark Mysterious Forest
A flooded forest clearing sits under a sky that fades from dusty peach at the left to pale green behind the trees. At the centre right, a column of golden light rises from the waterline, throwing up flecks and sparks that scatter into the air like embers. The light reflects in long broken streaks across the shallow water in the foreground. Bare, twiggy trees stand in silhouette, their branches catching pale blue-white highlights against the dark mass of the woodland behind them.
Large curved forms loom on both edges of the scene, reading as enormous horned or tusked shapes among the trees, which pushes the image firmly into fantasy territory. The paint handling is loose and blocky in the shadows and much finer where the gold light hits the water. The overall character is quiet and slightly unsettling: a still, cold landscape with one warm source of light at its heart.
Suits a bedroom or lounge with dark walls, charcoal linen or deep green paint, where the gold centre can act as the warm point in the room.
