About Deep Sea III
Two seahorses face one another in the centre of a square, cream-toned ground. The left seahorse is drawn in deeper cobalt with a spiked crown and ridged belly plates; the right one carries lighter washes of teal and pale blue through its curled tail. Above them, hand-lettered capitals read YOU, ME & THE SEA in the same blue ink. Fine flecks and splatters of navy and green scatter around both figures, and faint grey coral branches sit behind them at the edges.
The character is loose and light: watery pigment pools darker at the fin edges and fades almost white through the middle of each body, with the paper grain of the original watercolour visible in the wash. It reads as playful and coastal rather than formal, the lettering giving it a gentle sense of humour.
Suits beach houses, bathrooms and laundries, a child's bedroom, or a bedroom wall above the bedhead. The cream ground works over white, sand or pale timber walls, and the blues sit well with linen bedding, rattan, jute rugs and other coastal prints in a square or grid arrangement.
