About Dramatic Sky Sunset
A wide sunset sky fills the upper two thirds of the image, streaked with soft violet and mauve cloud that thins into feathered bands near the horizon. Below it the light burns to hot orange and yellow along a low ridge line, with a thin vapour trail cutting diagonally across the pink. The lower third shows rolling farmland: a pale gold field of dry grass heads in the foreground, a mown hillside behind, dark olive trees and slim cypresses, and a small stone farmhouse set among them.
The photograph is quiet rather than dramatic in subject, with all its energy in the colour of the sky. Fine detail in the seed heads and the sharp silhouettes of the cypresses keep the foreground grounded against the soft, washed cloud above.
Suits a bedroom above the bed head, a hallway or a dining room where warm light is wanted. It works in beach house and farmhouse interiors, and against white, oatmeal or pale grey walls.
