A bleached, cracked driftwood beam lies on a grassy rise in the foreground, running from left to right and angled toward the viewer. Smooth round stones sit against its far end and below it, with one larger grey rock on the right. The dry grass and bare sandy patches are brown and olive.
Beyond the dune the sea is flat and milky blue, softened by a long exposure. A low dark headland sits on the left horizon. The sky shifts from deep blue overhead to lilac, then streaks of peach and orange cloud, with a bright yellow glow where the sun has set. This is a photograph.
