About Drum Kit
A drum kit sits across the centre of this square composition, drawn loosely rather than precisely. Two large bass drums dominate the lower half, their skins broad discs of cream and off-white, one hooped in rust red, the other in deep teal blue. Above them sit two mounted toms, one green, one olive brown, with silver-grey rims. A tilted grey cymbal floats at the upper left and a second stretches across the top centre, with thin stand lines and a hi-hat sketched at the right.
The background is a wash of sand, cream and pale gold streaked vertically with blue, mauve and small blocks of green and orange, so the kit appears to dissolve into the wall behind it. Surface texture is dry and scraped, with colour worn back around the drum edges. The mood is relaxed and musical rather than literal, an instrument treated as shape and colour.
Suits a music room, home office or lounge where an instrument sits nearby, and works above a sideboard or record shelf. The sandy ground and faded blues pair with rattan, linen and pale timber in a coastal or relaxed family room, and the square format fits neatly over a bedhead or in a wide hallway alcove.
