About Earthly Pattern
Blocks of colour are stacked and overlapped across the square canvas: a deep rust band across the top, a wide ochre strip crusted with raised, scribbled relief, then a pale cream and olive panel at the centre. Below sits a grey-white rectangle scored with fine horizontal scratches. A dark charcoal column runs down the left edge and a brown panel on the right carries embossed oval rings. Gold loops and small dots are pressed into the surface like stamped marks.
The character is quiet and weathered, closer to an old plastered wall than a painting, with warmth coming from the rust and gold rather than from any bright colour.
Suits a living room with timber floors, leather or tan furniture, and warm lighting that catches the raised texture. Works above a sideboard, in an entry hall, or in a dining room with brick or render. Pairs with rust cushions, brass lamps, woven baskets and dark timber frames.
