About Earthy Grid
The composition is a wide field of overlapping rectangles, built up in thin scraped layers and then mapped with fine white lines that step and turn like a plan drawing. Blocks of burnt orange and ochre sit at the left edge, in the lower centre and again near the middle, warming an otherwise cool surface of grey-green, cream and deep slate blue. Small patches of teal show through along the right of centre. Towards the right the grid becomes regular, a lattice of square cells over softened grey.
Dry-brushed edges and worn, semi-transparent paint give the surface a weathered look, closer to a rendered wall than a clean geometric diagram. Its character is quiet and architectural, with the rust blocks giving just enough warmth to hold the eye.
Built for a long wall: above a three-seat sofa, a sideboard in a hallway, or a dining room feature wall. The greys and slate blues sit well with concrete, charcoal upholstery and brushed steel, while the rust blocks pick up tan leather, timber floors and terracotta pots. Works in open-plan living rooms and office reception areas. Browse more panoramic wall art, abstract oil paintings, earthy tones.
