Two large waves rise and break across the middle of the frame, their faces glowing translucent emerald green where the light passes through the water. White spray flies off the crests and hangs in the air, frozen mid-burst. The wave on the right is the taller of the two and curls over a darker blue-grey trough.
The sky is heavy with grey and pale cream cloud, with a thin band of dark horizon behind the swell. In the foreground a flat, wet rock shelf catches soft reflections and a few rust-brown patches. Foam streaks across the lower left. It is a photograph with strong contrast between bright water and a moody sky.
