About Ethnicity
A tall portrait canvas is covered almost entirely in deep forest green, brushed in broad horizontal passes so the weave of the canvas shows through and the colour shifts from cool bottle green at the edges to a warmer, lighter green near the centre. Set slightly above the middle is a small upright panel of pale turquoise, outlined by a soft charcoal and mauve border. Inside it, short vertical strokes of white, pink-grey and dark brown stand in a row, reading like columns or a narrow doorway seen from a distance.
The paint inside the panel is laid on thickly and scraped, giving a chalky, weathered surface against the flat green surround. The character is quiet and contained: a large field of colour holding one small, carefully worked focal point.
The deep green field suits a hallway, study or bedroom with white, oatmeal or pale grey walls, and reads well above a timber console or sideboard.
