About Facets of Life IV
Three narrow cypress trees stand to the right of centre, the nearest tall and thick, the two behind it smaller and paler, set against banded fields that run flat across the canvas. The horizon is a thin mauve-grey strip above layers of cream, straw yellow and deep ochre. A pale cream track cuts diagonally from the left edge towards the trees. Below it the ground shifts to brick red and rust. Long violet-brown shadows stretch from each trunk down to the bottom corners.
The paint is laid in broad, dry-brushed planes with the canvas weave showing through, so each colour band looks slightly scuffed rather than smooth. Its character is quiet and geometric: a warm, late-afternoon landscape reduced to stripes, shadows and three vertical marks.
Suits warm-toned living rooms, dining rooms and hallways with timber floors, leather or tan upholstery and cream walls. The wide banded format works above a low sideboard, bench seat or bedhead. Pairs with terracotta pots, linen cushions in rust or olive, and brass or black metal lamps and frames. Browse more landscape oil paintings, brown and earthy art, the Statton Collection.
