About Fairest of All
Three roughly rectangular blocks of deep olive and bronze-green sit in a row across the lower half of the canvas, their edges frayed and softened where dark pigment feathers into the background. Behind them the surface is divided into broad fields of pale grey-blue and a vertical band of warm sand that runs from top to bottom between the first and second blocks. A thin dark line drops from the upper edge to the centre block like a plumb line, and three short white drips run down the right-hand block.
The paint is worked thin and dry in places, so canvas weave shows through the green, while small patches of ochre and rust glow from beneath. It is a quiet, balanced abstract that reads as weathered metal or aged doors rather than anything literal.
Suits a living room above a low sideboard, a hallway or a home office where the greys and sands can pick up concrete, linen or oak. It sits well with pale walls, jute rugs, brass lamps and indoor greenery, and works beside timber furniture without competing for attention. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
