A weathered timber barn with a steep gambrel roof sits in the lower centre of the frame, its planks gone grey-brown and a low log wall running off to the left. Old split-rail fencing zigzags along the right side, and a lone small tree stands at the far left edge.
Behind it a row of jagged peaks rises from the flat valley floor. The first sun catches the rocky summits in copper and orange, with patches of snow in the gullies, while the lower slopes fall into blue-purple shade. The sky fades from deep violet to pale pink. Silvery-green sagebrush fills the foreground in sharp focus. This is a photograph.
