A single branching stem climbs a pale grey background, carrying two open five-petalled flowers and several deeply lobed leaves. The upper flower turns to the right, the lower one faces the viewer. Their petals are creamy white with fine veining and gold brushed through the tips and bases.
The leaves are rendered in metallic gold and olive, with sharply pointed lobes and thin curving stalks. Behind them the ground is washed in soft grey and white, with scraped, streaky texture and faint patches of warmer tone. The look is a botanical study with a gilded, layered finish rather than a photograph.
