Three peony blooms sit on a soft greige background with a fine horizontal weave, like raw silk. A large cream flower with blush pink centres sits at the top, a half-open bud leans beneath it, and a deeper plum-pink peony fills the lower right. Fine brown ink lines trace each ruffled petal edge, with soft washes of colour inside.
A small plum-coloured dragonfly hovers at the left of the lower bloom, its wings drawn in thin veined lines. Behind the flowers, branches and leaf shapes spread across the page in a muted gold-bronze metallic tone, with the grey ground showing through. The look is a pen-and-wash botanical illustration layered over a gilded pattern.
