A single Highland cow stands front-on in the centre of the frame, looking straight at the camera. Its long ginger coat hangs in loose, shaggy strands, with a fringe that falls over the eyes and a pink-brown nose showing through. Two wide, dark-tipped horns sweep out and upward on either side of its head.
Behind it, grassy moorland rolls back to a flat-topped hill and a lower blue ridge under a pale blue sky with soft cloud. The grass in front is bright green with patches of bare brown soil at the bottom left. The background is softly blurred, so the warm coat stands out against the cool greens and blues. This is a photograph.
