A tall bunch of red and coral gladioli fills the left and centre of this watercolour, their open blooms and pointed buds rising on long green stems. The petals are washed in warm reds and oranges with white paper left bare for highlights, and a few flicked splatters of pigment fall near the top left corner.
On the right, a green-tinted wine bottle with a red and cream label stands beside a plate of pears. One whole pear sits in front, with cut slices fanned out in yellow, cream and crimson. A dark maroon pear rests at the lower left. Behind them, orange window bars and blue and green washes blur softly together.
