About Good Blooms
A single wide poppy-like bloom fills the centre of this long panoramic canvas, its broad petals opening outward from a small speckled seed head of cream and gold dots. A second flower leans in from the right edge, cropped by the frame, and a smaller half-hidden bud sits low on the left. The petals are built up in thick, slightly cracked paint, washed with metallic gold over white so the raised ridges catch light and the hollows stay soft and chalky.
The background is a flat, plaster-like field of pale grey and putty, scratched and scored with faint stem lines and pale rectangular blocks that read almost like a weathered wall. The overall character is quiet and decorative rather than botanical, with the gold doing the work that colour usually does.
Built for a wide wall above a sofa, a long sideboard or a bed head. The pale grey ground suits neutral, coastal and French-provincial rooms, and the gold picks up brass lamps, timber floors and cream linen. Works well in a dining room where warm light moves across the raised petals. Browse more floral art, panoramic wall art, the Statton Collection.
