About Grand Majestic
A white stone church with a tall central dome, a slender spire and two smaller flanking domes fills the upper two thirds of the canvas, seen straight on from below. The stonework is built up in thick ridges of white, cream and pale grey laid on with a knife, so the arches, columns and balustrades catch light along their raised edges. Behind it the sky runs from deep navy at the top to bright cobalt around the domes, brushed smoothly so the building reads as lit from the front.
Below the church a long retaining wall with three arched openings crosses the picture, backed by a row of dark green trees, and broad terraced steps descend in flat grey-blue bands to the foreground. The overall character is calm and still: a night view where the weight of the paint does the work, the pale architecture sitting quietly against a strong blue field. Signed in white at the lower right.
Suits an entrance hall, dining room or study where a single strong blue panel can anchor the wall. It works with white or pale grey paint, dark timber furniture and brass or black metal lighting, and pairs well with other blue-toned or travel subjects. In a bedroom the night sky keeps the mood quiet. Browse more religious art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
