About Gratification
Two simplified nude figures fill the centre of a portrait canvas, painted in flat teal blue with turquoise edges that catch like rim light along every limb. Their heads are smooth ovals without features, tilted together so one rests against the other's cheek. Arms fold between them, knees bend and overlap, and long legs stretch across the lower canvas in interlocking diagonals. Fine dark lines score the forms where thigh meets hip and hand meets shoulder, standing in for anatomy without describing it.
The background is sprayed and blended rather than brushed, shifting from pale grey at the centre to warm beige, dusty mauve and soft brown towards the corners, so the figures seem lit from behind. Nothing is drawn in detail, yet the pose reads clearly as closeness. The painting's character sits in that restraint: a quiet, contained image of two people, more silhouette than portrait.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a hallway with warm grey or putty walls, or a lounge beside soft linen upholstery. The teal reads strongly against pale neutrals and works with timber, brass and ceramic. Pair it with other blue-toned figurative work, or hang it alone over a low sideboard where the tall composition has room. Browse more nude art, people and figures, all hand-painted oil paintings.
