About Harbor
Tall waterfront houses fill most of the canvas, packed shoulder to shoulder in apricot, cream, pale grey and chalky lilac. Wrought-iron balconies, green shuttered windows and two teal awnings break up the facades, and a dark arched doorway sits at the centre with a flight of stone steps climbing beside it. Below, a paved quay runs to the water, where a white timber boat with a pale hull and long bow is moored against the stone edge. Two open white umbrellas stand to the right beside a low rock wall.
paint is laid on thickly with a knife, so the render on the walls looks scraped and chalky and the stone quay in the foreground carries ridges of grey, ochre and green. Light falls from the upper left, throwing the arcade and the lower houses into cool shadow while the orange building on the right stays warm. The mood is quiet and unpeopled, an ordinary midday moment in a working harbour rather than a postcard view.
Suits a dining room, hallway or living room with white or warm sand walls. The apricot and teal notes work with timber furniture, rattan, linen and terracotta pots. Good above a sideboard or a long dining table, and it sits comfortably alongside coastal photography or other European village scenes. Browse more Mediterranean art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
