About Headstrong
Three horses fill this landscape composition, their heads staggered in profile and all facing right, as though caught mid-gallop. The coats are dun and gold, shaded with soft brown and grey along the jawlines, muzzles and cheekbones. Long manes sweep back to the left in sheets of charcoal, black and warm tan, blurring into the upper left corner. Behind them the background splits: pale slate blue across the top right, and a wash of sandy ochre along the lower half.
The finish is loose and fluid, with visible sweeping strokes in the manes and thin washes where the sand tone runs and pools. Eyes are half closed, ears pinned back, nostrils dark and open. The effect is one of speed and quiet determination rather than detailed realism.
Suits a living room with timber, leather or linen furniture, a country or coastal homestead hallway, a home office, or above a bed with neutral bedding. The tan and charcoal palette pairs with rattan, brass lamps, jute rugs and dark timber frames. A large size carries a wide lounge wall well.
