A cross section of a tree trunk fills the left and lower part of a square white field, rendered in a single deep indigo-violet ink. Growth rings circle a centre point just left of middle, and long pale cracks run outward from it like spokes, reaching the rough edge of the wood.
The texture looks like a block print or rubbing. Dark ink pools in the outer rings, while the inner rings break into speckled white patches where the ink thins. The trunk is cropped by the top and left edges, and the right and bottom edges show a ragged outline against clean white space.
