The view is from inside a breaking wave, looking up at the curling lip as it arches over the camera. The water wall is deep teal and navy, rippled with fine textured streaks that follow the curve of the barrel. Small bright flecks of light catch on the ridges on the left side of the face.
On the right the barrel opens onto a low sun sitting just above a dark headland, with warm orange and apricot light spilling across the foam and shallow water. Scattered pink-tinged clouds and patches of blue sky show through the spray at top right. It is a close, sharp photograph with a strong contrast between cool water and golden horizon.
