A single upright stem carries six trumpet-shaped flowers and several closed buds, set against a worn, mottled grey background. The colours look inverted, like a photographic negative: petals are cool teal and powder blue, while the inner cups glow a muted rust and rose.
Fine stamens show as pale threads inside each bloom, and the petals look slightly transparent, so overlapping edges show through. The largest flower hangs low at the bottom right. The grey ground has scratched, cloudy marks like aged paper, which gives the whole image a faded, X-ray feel.
