A single tulip tilts across the frame on a curved stem that exits at the lower right. The petals overlap and look semi-transparent, like a negative or x-ray, so the inner petals show through the outer ones. The stamens sit at the centre as small dark green shapes.
The colour is limited to dusky mauve-pink and deep bottle green, with the darkest tones pooled along the petal edges. Behind the flower, the grey background is mottled with scratches, specks and worn patches, giving the digital photograph the feel of aged paper or plaster. The effect is moody and quiet.
