About White Blossom Impasto
A square canvas is filled with hundreds of small white blossoms built up in thick palette-knife strokes. Each flower is made from four or five flat petals pressed and dragged outward, leaving raised ridges that catch light along their edges. Tiny dots of ochre and rust mark the centres. The blooms crowd tightly across the lower two-thirds and thin out towards the top, where a smooth aqua and pale turquoise ground shows through in broad scraped sweeps.
The effect is quiet and tactile rather than decorative, closer to a bed of blossom seen from directly above than a bouquet. Colour is kept to white against water-blue, so the surface relief does most of the work.
Suits a bedroom above a bed head, a bathroom or ensuite where the aqua ground reads as water, or a hallway that needs light. Pairs with white linen, pale timber, rattan and brushed nickel. The square format works well centred over a low sideboard or in a pair on a wide coastal-style wall. Browse more knife paintings, floral art, square paintings.
