About Hydrangea Garden Sky
A bank of hydrangea heads fills the lower two thirds of the canvas, built from hundreds of small thick dabs of paint in sky blue, violet, deep purple, white, pale pink and lemon yellow. Each bloom reads as a rounded cluster rather than a drawn flower, the knife marks sitting proud of the surface so the petals catch light. Behind and between them, short green and dark bronze strokes stand in for leaves, some flicked upward like blades. The top third is a smooth, thinly brushed pale blue sky graded to near white at the horizon line of flowers.
The mood is bright and uncomplicated: a close-up garden view at eye level, with the raised paint doing most of the work. The contrast between the heavy textured blooms and the flat calm sky keeps it from feeling busy.
Suits a light-filled living room, bedroom or hallway with white or pale grey walls, and works well above a sideboard or bedhead. Pairs with linen upholstery, rattan, timber floors and pale blue or lilac cushions. The smooth sky area gives it room to breathe in smaller spaces such as an entry or ensuite.
