About Poppy Field Path
A broad field of scarlet poppies fills the lower two-thirds of this square canvas, broken by a pale grey path that snakes from the middle distance down to the right edge. Chrome yellow grasses flare through the red in short knife-laid flecks, brightest along the bottom edge where petals scatter into the light. Behind the poppies runs a band of golden wheat, then a hedge of green shrubs. Slim dark cypress trees stand at left and right against soft blue hills and a high cream-white sky with blue cloud strokes.
The mood is warm and open, with strong colour contrast rather than fine detail. Thick knife strokes give the field a ridged surface that catches light across the canvas.
Suits a dining room, kitchen wall or entry hall that needs warmth, and works above a sideboard or a long bench. The red and yellow sit well with timber furniture, cream or pale grey walls, linen upholstery and terracotta pots. Hang it as a single square above a two-seater or in a stairwell.
