About Red Dancers Trio
Three simplified dancers stand side by side across the lower half of the canvas, each built from a single black line for arms and legs and a small black oval head. Their bodies are blocks of thick scarlet oil, and their skirts are made from dozens of separate red dabs pressed on with a knife, so each one reads as a cluster of petals. Loose red flecks drift up through the background. Behind them the paint is scraped flat in broad slabs of white, cream, pale blue and ochre, with dark maroon and charcoal along the base.
The character is light and playful: three figures caught mid-step, with all the weight of the paint carried in the red skirts. The heavy knife work gives the surface real ridges, so the reds catch light while the pale background stays flat and quiet.
Suits a hallway, a girl's bedroom, a music or dance room, or a dining wall that needs one bold red note. Works against white, grey or pale timber walls, and pairs with black-framed photographs, cream linen and light oak furniture. The wide format sits well above a sideboard or a low bench seat.
