About Sunset Sails
Two sailing boats cross calm water in the lower half of the canvas. The nearer yacht sits left of centre with a tall triangular sail streaked orange and white, a small white hull and two dark seated figures. The second boat, further right, carries a broad ochre-gold sail and a long dark hull with a single figure at the tiller. Behind them a low blue shoreline and a scatter of thin distant masts mark the horizon. The sky is built from long diagonal knife strokes of crimson, orange, cream, violet and deep navy.
Thick ridges of paint catch the light, and the water repeats the sky in broken bands of blue, white and burning orange. The mood is bold and high-contrast rather than quiet, with colour doing most of the work.
Suits a living room with a long sofa wall, a dining room that needs a colour anchor, or a coastal-style hallway. The orange and navy work against white, pale grey or timber walls, and pair with linen upholstery, brass lamps and blue ceramics. Larger sizes hold their own above a wide sideboard. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
