About Blue Blossom Field
A wide canvas filled with small five-petal blossoms built up in thick palette knife strokes. The flowers crowd the lower two thirds, packed shoulder to shoulder in cobalt and turquoise blue, each with a short black dab at the centre. They thin out towards the top, scattering into single buds against a ground of warm gold and cream that has been dragged and scraped flat with the knife. Between the blooms the underpainting shows through as ochre and copper, giving the field a warm base beneath all the cool blue.
The character is bright and decorative, with real relief you can see from the side. It reads as a meadow at a distance and as pure texture up close.
Suits a long wall above a sofa, sideboard or bed head in a living room or main bedroom. The gold and cream ground works with oak, rattan and pale linen, while the cobalt picks up navy cushions or blue ceramics. Good in a white hallway where side light catches the raised petals.
