About Red Poppy Field
A wide band of red poppies fills the lower two thirds of the canvas, packed shoulder to shoulder and thinning out as they rise. Each bloom is laid down in four or five broad knife strokes, so the petals sit as raised ridges of scarlet with visible edges where the blade lifted away. Small black and dark crimson dabs mark the seed centres. Between the flowers, sandy ochre and tan strokes suggest stems and dry ground, sweeping diagonally across the lower half.
The upper third is pale blue and white, scraped on in short horizontal passes that leave a rough, plaster-like surface. A handful of single poppies float above the mass, breaking the skyline. The character is bold and close-up: flat blocks of pure red against cool light, with real depth in the paint you can read from the side.
Suits a long wall above a sideboard, sofa or bedhead where the panoramic shape can stretch out. The scarlet reads strongly against white, grey or pale timber walls, and works with linen upholstery, black metal frames and warm oak.
