About Winter Lamplight Steps
A tall black lamp post stands just left of centre in the foreground, its white globe lit, its shadow laid in a dark diagonal across snow-covered ground. Behind it a flight of steps climbs between iron railings, with a second run of railing crossing to the right. Four smaller lamps recede up the slope beneath bare trees, their branches scraped in thin dark lines against a bright patch of sky. Snow is built up in thick white and cream knife strokes, broken by ochre and warm brown where the path shows through.
There is very little colour beyond white, brown and charcoal, so the picture reads mainly as light and shadow. The mood is quiet and cold, a park path at dusk with the lamps just switched on.
Suits an entry hall, stairwell or reading corner where a tall narrow wall needs filling. The charcoal and cream range sits well with grey sofas, oak floors and black-framed mirrors.
