About Autumn Birch Grove
A dense stand of birch trunks fills the whole canvas from edge to edge, painted in thick white and pale grey strokes laid on with a palette knife. Each trunk carries short black and dark brown bark marks, some square, some slit-like, built up in ridges that catch the light. Behind them the background shifts from warm cream on the right to cooler grey-green on the left. Fine dark branches arc across the trunks in thin lines, and small orange, amber and red leaf dabs are scattered across the surface.
The mood is quiet and autumnal rather than dramatic, with the repeated vertical trunks giving a calm, almost wallpaper-like rhythm. The scattered warm leaf flecks are the only bright notes against the neutral cream and grey.
The long panoramic shape suits the wall above a sofa, a bed head, or a hallway run. Cream and grey backgrounds sit easily with oak, linen and rattan, while the orange leaf flecks pick up tan leather or terracotta cushions.
